Junior tennis apparel – what exactly are kids wearing on the tennis court nowadays? There are plenty of brands to choose from but how many can give them a colour co-ordinated head to to look with the perfect fit?
What do you wear to Tennis Lessons?
- Comfortable clothing – any sports clothing that is loose and comfortable for your child.
- Clothing to suit the weather.
- Suitable footwear
At Zoe Alexander we recommend a combination of tank with long sleeve top combined with leggings for girls. Boys can wear a tee shirt with shorts with a sweatshirt for the torso. These are suitable for indoor tennis and outdoor once the chillier weather has passed.
Summer for the girls permits dresses and in hotter climates shorts or capri pants with a tank top. For boys there are the tee, muscle vest options to go with shorts. For winter, we offer girls polar fleece tops, hoodies and sweatshirts with fleece lined full length leggings. For boys we have sweatshirts, hoodies and joggers to keep them warm on training days or evenings.
Any kind of sports runners or specific tennis shoes. Our preferred brands for tennis shoes are Wilson and K-Swiss, but it is down to the individual to find what works best for them.
At what age should a child start playing tennis?
Most experts say that the best age to begin practicing tennis in a more formal manner is at 5 or 6 years of age but we all know kids who start earlier. When children reach an age where they have already quite developed their psycho motor skills, their coordination and attention, they are able to adapt themselves much better to the demands of the game.
To build their confidence too at this impressionable age, we recommend they also dress the part. It’s all about identity for them and feeling fully engaged with what they are doing, especially when it’s so much fun. Comfortable, stylish kids tennis clothes are very important to the early learning so that they can focus on having fun without the distractions of ill-fitting or uncomfortable/unsuitable clothing.
